I’m Sandra.

I design tools that simplify complex healthcare and SaaS workflows — making them intuitive, elegant, and human-centered.

Action Center Dashboard

Modernized an outdated dashboard to increase feature adoption, streamline task workflows, and enable faster decision-making.

The Challenge

The affiliate dashboard at SMS Assist was outdated and hindered users’ ability to manage tasks effectively:

  • Poor Navigation: High cognitive load made it difficult for affiliates to locate and complete tasks.

  • Underutilized Features: Tools like “Snooze” and the Action Center were hidden and rarely used.

  • Limited Filtering Options: Complex workflows couldn’t be prioritized efficiently.

  • Lack of Scalability: The system couldn’t support future features or growth.

These issues increased dependency on customer support, reduced platform ROI, and caused user frustration.

Business Goals

  • Drive Feature Adoption: Improve visibility and usage of critical tools like the Action Center and “Snooze.”

  • Streamline Task Management: Enable affiliates to locate and prioritize tasks quickly.

  • Future-Proof the Dashboard: Create a scalable design to accommodate new features.

Research

I mapped out the existing workflow to pinpoint inefficiencies and prioritize key improvements.

I also organized and led research by conducting 7 user interviews to identify pain points, workflows, and feature gaps

After all the feedback synthesized with the help of Chatgpt. I was able to come up with 4 areas to improve on.

  1. Simplify Navigation: Introduced a clearer structure to reduce cognitive load.

  2. Improve Visibility: Highlighted underused tools with better discoverability.

  3. Empower Users: Designed advanced filters and task prioritization tools.

  4. Ensure Scalability: Built a flexible framework for future feature growth.

Usability Testing

Conducted usability tests with affiliate managers to validate designs and refine workflows. Iterated based on feedback to improve navigation clarity, filtering tools, and discoverability of hidden features. I developed and tested multiple design iterations:

  • Tabbed Navigation: Streamlined task access by grouping related workflows into clear sections.

  • Redesigned Task Cards: Simplified task summaries with visual prioritization of deadlines.

  • Advanced Filters: Allowed users to sort tasks by urgency, type, and priority.

We settled on 3 designs:

  1. Simplified navigation labels to reduce user confusion.

  2. Optimized filter interactions for quick task sorting.

  3. Enhanced task cards to provide clearer summaries and priorities.

The Final Solution

Feature updates include:

Intuitive Tabbed Navigation: Reduced cognitive load by organizing tasks into distinct, accessible sections.

Advanced Filters: Enabled task prioritization through multi-layered sorting options.

Enhanced Task Cards: Provided clear summaries and visual prioritization to help users take action faster.

Feature Awareness Tools: Integrated tooltips and FAQs to improve discoverability of hidden tools like “Snooze.”

The redesigned dashboard has transformed the way we manage tasks. Features like filters and tabbed navigation have saved us hours every week.
